I saw a guy post a photo of his girlfriend and he captioned it “sometimes I wonder how she is so pretty.” I sat there thinking “wow that’s so cute, my boyfriend would never do something like that.” But then after a minute I was like… so what? I got frustrated that I found myself comparing him to the ways other guys treat their girlfriends.

I think our [women’s] issue with their own man is that there is always some other girl’s Prince Charming doing it differently and from our perspective: “better.” So we set these high standards for our own loved one… how does that make sense? See, we forget that from the beginning, every man, and woman alike, was individually handcrafted by God to show love and affection in their own unique way.

Genesis 1:27 says: “So God created mankind in his own image. In the image of God, he created them; male and female HE. created. them.”

It’s about time we stop looking to society for how our own relationship should look. it’s time to stop that “girl-talk” mentality of “well I know this guys who does this for his girlfriend…” because there might be a man, who is not that guy, who is right in front of you and who is loving you with his whole heart, in the way God made him to. The only standards you should be holding that to is how fervently Christ loved the church.

Ephesians 5:25 says “Husbands, love your wives just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her..” verses 28 & 29 go onto say that “husbands ought to love their wives as their own bodies… they feed and care for their body, just as Christ does the church.”

So don’t ask yourself if he has bought you the right flowers or said the most “movie-perfect” quote so you can tell your friends later… But block out society’s noise for a moment to ask yourself if he truly is filling you up with selfless love, nourishing your spirit and caring for you the way God made -only him- to do.

And in the end, yeah, my boyfriend doesn’t show the world he cares/thinks I’m pretty by posting sappy photos of us on social media.. but he shows me and that’s all that matters.
